There might be any number of reasons you are interested in the idea of Outside Church – perhaps to simply move activities outdoors, to more specifically adapt to reflect the outdoor setting, or to move more fully towards a ‘Forest Church’ model, for example. This module gives you the opportunity to hear from people’s experiences of running activities, access resources, and then apply the ideas in your own setting.

- Plan a way forward to getting your own Outside Church expression started
This module is aimed at clergy and youth workers who want to develop Outside Church projects and activities in their context. The module is self-led, but you can do it alongside others who are interested.
Emma Sargeant (Growing Younger Adviser at Church of England Birmingham) guides you through the module, where you will think about the purpose of your outside expression, prompted by films of interviews and Zoom conversations with people from across the Birmingham diocese, as well as the founders of Muddy Church and Wild Worship. Then reflect on your learning, drawing together what you are going to create in your context. You might like to have a pen and paper handy, to make notes during the various pauses for reflection.
